The unveiling ceremony of Damavand destroyer was participated by Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan, Secretary of Iran's National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and Head of the Self-Sufficiency Jihad Department of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Ali Qolamzadeh.
Damavand shows Iranian engineers and experts' high capabilities to move in the path of self-sufficiency.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in essential military equipment and systems.
The Iranian Navy launched its first domestically-built destroyer, Jamaran, in the Persian Gulf in February 2010. The 1,420-ton destroyer is equipped with modern radar systems and other electronic warfare capabilities. It also features highly advanced anti-aircraft, anti-surface and anti-subsurface systems.
Iran's first home-made destroyer, Jamaran, was launched in late February 2010. The Mowdge Class vessel has a displacement of around 14,000 tons and is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities and is armed with a variety of anti-ship, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles.
Iran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
